Yellow Dock/Olive Oil Infusion

Boy, this is supposed to turn pink?  If it does, I'll be very pleasantly surprised! Right now it's pretty vile and disgusting looking.  This has been infusing for approx. 48 hours, and I was hoping to pour the soap either this evening or tomorrow morning. However...

My choice of  EOs don't seem very "pink" to me.  The mimosa wax I ordered, I think would be great as a pink soap.  To make this infusion wait for another 4-5 days might make it really pink, though.

I'll post pictures when I do get the wax.  The lady at Liberty Natural seemed to think that is would take a bit less wax than essential oil to scent the same amount of soap.  I haven't used floral wax for a couple of years, and I can't remember how much I used...if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. : )

Happy skin, y'all!  ~Becky

Hello Becky, I have never tried Yellow Dock and can't wait to see how it turns out for you! I have achieved a great light pink from Pink Clay. As for floral waxes, never even really heard of them! Also, can't wait to hear about it. Are they more or less expensive than EOs? I only ever did a Rose soap once and it sold out right away. The EO for Neroli and Rose are just to costly. But if I could get them naturally another way?? xoxo Jen

Hi Jen! I can't wait for the Yellow Dock results either, but since I've decided to wait for the Mimosa was I guess we'll both have to wait a bit : (I get my floral waxes (as well as essential oils) from a company in Oregon called Liberty Natural Products. Here's a link to their floral wax page: www.libertynatural.com/bulk/waxflora.htm (Brace yourself, a few of them are wildly expensive!)About floral waxes: "Fragrance wise 1 oz. of floral wax is equivalent to about 1/2 oz. of the corresponding absolute." and "They're the fragrant, waxy by-products of the process that turns botanical concretes into absolutes" (per www.alittleolfactory.com/waxes.htm)I've never ordered from them, but I like their site. : ) Hope that helps! I can't wait to see your next experiment with the pinch of salt! ~Becky

How funny, Backy! Great minds... and all.I just dug up some Yellow Dock roots the other day and put them in oil to infuse. I found a soapthread (http://www.soapmakingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10108&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0) that talks about it and realized that Yellow Dock is a very common weed here. So I'm very excited by the prospect of getting a local colorant. It also has benefits to the skin.

Wow! A common weed? How exciting! I've read that it has quite a few medicinal uses in addition to being a soap colorant. Thanks for the thread...I'm going to go check it out!Does your yellow dock infusion look as yucky as mine? ~Becky

I'm curious to see your floral wax soap experiment. I've never used a floral wax either.

Yes Becky (sorry my fingers slipped on your name before) THe Yellow Dock is rather yucky. I ground the root up fresh and put it in oil. So bits and pieces of root and that peculiar yellow. Lets hope it turns pink!
