Little Shaving Soaps

Well, here is a photo of the shaving soaps I made yesterday. This afternoon I got to wondering about Bentonite. I knew it was a clay that helps give shaving soap its "slip", but I wondered if it might have some other benefits for the skin.

You all may know this already, but it was a pleasant surprise to me.

"Up until recently because of the unique compound and the fact that it can only be found in certain areas the volcanic clay ash was only used in the most exclusive spas. One that only the wealthy and the famous could afford, now this secret has been opened to the masses in a number of beauty products that can make it possible for everyone to enjoy the wonders and benefits of this well kept skin purifying and beautifying secret.

Volcanic Ash clay can help to beautify and purify the skin. It draws away the toxins and poisons that every day life puts on your skin letting its natural beauty show through. It can also help to reduce the signs of aging, give the skin a youthful appearance, and glow. It also helps reduce the signs of sun damage and the appearance of cellulite and acne. It really is one of the best ways to treat your skin."

This is a partial quote from an article by Lori Matthews which can be found here:

After reading about the wonders of bentonite, and since I have a bag of the powdered wonder just sitting on my shelf, I decided to include it in a batch of my Oatmeal & Honey complexion soap. It will be ready to ship in four weeks, but you know I'll be using/testing it before then. I'm anxious for the "reducing the signs of aging" thing! Not to mention the cellulite thing! : )

I'll let you all know if I wake up someday suddenly sleek and beautiful! LOL

Hi! Thanks for the info on Bentonite. I have various clays that I use Pink Clay, Green Clay and I have used Bentonite once but without really knowing its benofits. These soaps look so pretty... have you got any tips for getting soaps out of moulds? I just use my wooden log mould now, with lining paper. I had some very nice plastic moulds that I don't use any more, similar to these but just couldn't get the soap out in one piece. Yours look so perfect!! xo Jen

Hi Jen,I know what you mean about getting the soaps out of those cute little moulds. Here's my secret, although I read it somewhere so it's really not mine, nor is it a secret. But I digress...here's what I do: After the soap has cured approx. 24 hours I pop the trays into the freezer for about one to two hours. (Set a timer) Then simply bring them out, invert them on the counter, wait 2-3 min. for the condensation to form (it forms inside the mould too) then just gently press on the mould and the soaps will just fall right out.I have never had problems with "interrupting" the curing process as described above. I have quite a collection of cute little moulds and can do really nice decorative soaps when I get the urge.I hope this little trick works as well for you as it always has for me. If not for finding this info a few years ago, I probably would have just thrown out all my pretty moulds.Let me know how it works for you! :)Becky

Great looking soaps and interesting about the bentonite. It's not something that I have tried, but I like the claims!

I've never used bentonite myself. Now that I know how great it is, I might have to try it out! Thanks for the info!
