100% Natural Melt & Pour Soap Base!

100% Natural Melt & Pour Soap Base?  Impossible?  Not when I make my own! :D

That’s right, we have been wanting to add adorable, decorative kids soap to our product line, but when I researched melt and pour bases…..well….YIKES!!  Chemicals, chemicals everywhere!  NOT what I wanted to offer parents to use on their kiddos.

I even went so far as to order a “how to” book on melt & pour soap bases a few years ago.  Sadly, the recipes contained in the book were no more natural that the pre-made bases.

What’s a girl to do?  I was busy, distracted….the new shop, blah blah blah, and so the hunt stalled.   Well, my Dear Hubby recently expressed interest in the art of melt and pour soap making, so my hunt for a handmade natural melt and pour recipe resumed.

I am happy to report that I found a recipe online with NO artificial ingredients, I tweaked it a tad & it actually turned out!!  Here it is in the loaf mold cooling:handmade melt and pour soap by heirloom soapworks

Here are a couple of experimental soaps using the base:handmade m and p flowers

While Hubby is developing new designs and learning the tricks of melt and pour soaping, this much we know for sure:  this soap is a healthy, fun soap that contains only pure, natural ingredients that folks can feel good about their kiddos using (and hopefully kids might wash more as a result? -We can only hope!)
Happy Soaping, everyone!   ~Becky

Handmade Natural soap -St. Louis Style!

Handmade Natural Soap is selling well in our Lebanon, IL shop -just about 20mi. from downtown St. Louis, MO.

We have added quite a few new handmade soap and bath products since our grand opening last Fall: natural paraben-free lotions, natural body mists, fantastic-smelling bath grains, natural deodorants and more!

The pictures below offer a glimpse of the shop and products.   I am feeling truly blessed with the opportunity to offer my products in my own little retail setting -pinching myself occasionally to make sure it's all real.

Thank You to all who are enjoying our soap and bath products and supporting our small business!   We are planning lots of new goodies coming for Spring 2014 including hands-on Soapmaking 101 classes!

Happy Bathing, everyone!  ~Becky

Handmade Christmas Soaps are here!

Handmade Christmas Soaps are here!

There are few things I enjoy more than freely expressing my faith through my work. (Being self-employed does have it’s advantages!)

Christmas seems like one of the best times to do so, as with all the hustle and bustle and secular distractions….well, it can take a person’s mind off of what Christmas truly celebrates -the birth of Our Savior, Jesus Christ.

It’s this most blessed event which I hope to convey (albeit with the most humble of materials -soap) in this year’s Christmas Gift Set from Heirloom Soapworks:

True Christmas by Heirloom Soapworks

This set includes three full-sized bars of natural soap, with the tangy-sweet scents of citrus and pine.

Whether you’re looking for a gift for your Pastor, Sunday School Teacher, or a favorite brother or sister in the faith, this set is sure to be appreciated!

Reserve yours now on our Facebook page, as supplies are very limited.

Happy Soaping everyone!  ~Becky

“Luke 2:7″ Christmas Soaps -your opinion, please…

To glitter or not to glitter, THAT is the question!

The limited edition “Luke 2:7″ Christmas soaps are on the curing rack, but I can’t decide on one thing:  are they prettier and more evocative of Baby Jesus’ glorious presence:
with glitter or without?

Here’s a picture of both versions, with and without glitter. Please feel free to comment and let me know which you prefer:
"And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn"    Luke 2:7.

The camera doesn't pick up all of the glitter, but I think you can get an idea of the different looks from the picture.

Thanks for visiting, and Happy Soaping everyone!

Heirloom's St. Louis area/Southern Illinois Handmade Soap Retail Shop

Things are perking along at our new retail soap shop in Lebanon, IL (Southern IL/Metro St. Louis area) -we're busily trying to stock up for the Christmas season.

(Meanwhile, my mind is seriously turning to mush.  Could it be that the constant planning & formulating has my brain "at capacity?"  I recently wrote a note to myself, and I have yet to decipher it's meaning -you gotta love the busy season, right?  I hope some of my fellow soapers can relate, and it's not just me! LOL)

Here are a few of our new varieties for Fall that are for sale NOW at the shop:

Red Apple  -tart, true and oh so fresh!

"Snowcap" -a fresh, sweet pine

"Pumpkin Spice" warm & spicy, with real pumpkin puree

I have declared today "Christmas Soap Day" (I do so love declaring's great fun to be "the boss".....even if I have no employees!)  I will hopefully have some photos of decorative, handmade Christmas soaps to post in the next few days.

Oh, and I'm not sure that you all know that I have made some soap-making videos.  You can check out my YouTube soap-making demos here: TheSoapSisterChannel (hey, it's better than sorting socks or picking lint off your sweaters, right?)

Have a super day, and happy soaping everyone! :)  ~Becky

There's a New Handmade Soap Shop in St. Louis

There’s a New Handmade Soap Shop in St. Louis!

O.K., well, we’re technically about 20 minutes from downtown, on the Illinois side of the St. Louis Metro Area, and while the shop/studio is new, we have actually been making soap since 2002, but I digress...
Heirloom Soapworks Handmade Soap is now officially open in beautiful, historic, downtown Lebanon, IL!  We are so excited to be the FIRST handmade soap shop on the Illinois side of the St. Louis area, and ready to serve up some fine, locally made bath goodies to all the folks in the St. Louis area, both East & West of the Mighty Mississippi! :D

Our shop/studio is located right on “the brick street” at 111 W. St. Louis St., inside the Tiadaghton House.  Hours are Wed.-Sat. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday Noon -4 p.m.
I have been collecting pieces for the store since early last Dec.;  arranging and re-arranging things in my mind.  I know many of you are curious, so without further ado here are some pics of the new soap shop/studio:

What do you think of my vintage-inspired bathtub soap stand?  Hubby made it for me, and I couldn’t be happier with it -what a guy! :)   He also transformed my work counter/cabinet with waiscoting and crown molding.  And built the table below that holds my sink trio.  Speaking of sinks, that a 1923 Kohler pedestal sink that my sister Martie found for me (along with my 1921 white wall mount sink) in Champaign, IL.
My vintage sink collection finally has a home (at least for 3 of them!) Looking from left to right: “Sky Blue” 1962 American Standard,  1921 Kohler in white,  1950 American Standard  (sometimes referred to as “Mamie Pink” -unwittingly inspired by Mamie Eisenhower)  I love how this display turned out, and customers seem to appreciate it too!

Our studio is nestled upstairs, and the Tiadaghton House’s main shop below is filled with some AMAZING local art -from fiber art, pottery, jewelry & paintings to some gorgeous Stickley furniture.  Worth the drive just to see the downstairs, we hope while you’re visiting you’ll venture upstairs to pick up some handmade soap and bath/body goodies!
Happy Soaping, Everyone!  ~Becky
