Buttermilk Soap w/Ylang Ylang & Sweet Orange

Well, I finally figured out how "Miss Impatience" (that's me) can swirl the tops of her soaps:  Pour it in the mold, go clean up my messy soap room, and by then I can come back and swirl and twirl to my hearts content!
I'm hoping that the brownish color (yellow dock) will  turn more pink as it cures...we'll see.  I must say that this whole swirling, coloring adventure is big fun for me.  It makes un-molding and cutting very exciting!

Happy skin, all!

This one I want to EAT, it looks so good! I've been wondering about something..namely, when I take my time with sculpting soap after its been poured - lets say, soap has been poured and it remains uncovered while I fuzz around and sculpt for maybe 10 min or so - all that airy exposure right at the beginning will lead to ash on top. What a nuisance to have that happen when you invest all this time sculpting your little heart out, ya know? So...and I guess this question goes out to all of you who know what I'm talking about...does the ash bother you? Do you do anything to prevent it (other than cover mould w/ plastic wrap once you're done)Long ramble..sorry

Very unique swirl! Let's see how the colour changes over time? Will it get to pink? About the ash question from Cocobong... I have only had it happen a few times, recently more than ever and I don't really mind the ash... I think it adds character to the soaps. But it doesn't look Becky got ask on this soap? Becky, question - how long was the soap exposed to air after pouring before putting the top on?

You guys are all so sweet -thanks for the encouragement! I can't figure the "ash-thing" out. I've stopped covering with plastic wrap. This batch I just lay a piece of cardboard on top of the molds and then cover with a few old fleece baby blankets. Jen, to answer your question: I poured it into the molds and then immediately covered w/cardboard & blankets. Waited about 10-15 minutes while I cleaned up, and then went back and messed with the tops for maybe a minute...two minutes at the most.I have no idea why the ash didn't form. Same recipe...same superfatting...same level of trace as always. ???I'm curious about the rubbing alcohol trick, though. Do you spray the soap after the ash forms or as a preventative? Does anyone know?Happy skin all!~Becky

I've sprayed the alcohol right before I cover w/ plastic wrap, and it does work. Also, when I want to do layers I will spray inbetween each layer before I pour the next one on. Helpy to harden the layer top below and thus the new poured layer doesn't sink in

Helpy?..umm, I meant Helps ;)

Thanks for the great info on the alcohol technique! BTW, I thought "helpy" was a "young folks" word that I was too old to be hip to! So glad to hear it was just a typo! : )

Jen, Yippee! I'm glad my "babies" made it all the way "across the pond" safely! I'm anxiously awaiting your soaps! I'm glad you like the smells, and hopefully the soap itself won't disappoint! : )~Becky
