I hate when my soap tops look too much like everyone elses. I guess there's only so much one can do with the top of a mold full of gloppy wet soap, but I'm still trying for a look that's different.
Here's my latest attempt: "Down Comforter" is what I'm calling it, and I think I like it pretty well....
I haven't quite "perfected" it (is there such a thing in soaping?) I'm guessing someone, somewhere has probably done something similar, but I don't know of it -so at least it feels original.
I love the "swirls", but find if I go crazy and make them too high, then they're really hard to get into my muslin bags. I'm thinking these will work very well -we'll see! :) Happy Soaping to All!

Looks soft and comforting to me. I love them. Nice work.
Yep, I can see it:) I don't know, do you ever get to a stage when you're over all the fancy soaps? and nice plain soap is just beautiful? think I'm getting there now:)
Unique... I can definitely see down comforter!! xo Jen
Thanks ladies! It's hard to be original, isn't it? And a resounding "yes" about being over the fancy soaps -or at least over creating them! I love lookin' at the artistry of others -I never get tired of that. :D
I think it looks just like a comforter. You did a great job, I have the same problem with making high tops for my soap because my soap display has a certain height.
Love it! Unique, yet interesting. :) Funny story, I had a guy buy an Antique Lilac soap at the market this morning. I had one with a peaked top and one smooth, so I asked him which one he wanted. He pointed at the peaked top and asked, "Why would I want that one?" LOL!
Hi Becky,
Your soap does connote a down comforter/cozy type of appearance. I think it always behooves us to try to be as original and innovative as possibly, and that would include turning the "missing the mark" soaps into something we didn't expect. It is like good fiction--which I am into, where the quote goes "A writer (or any artist) has to surprise himself to be worth reading (or appreciating).
Good work Becky!
