"Beach Blanket Bingo" Soap

Move over, Annette, you're not the only one who knows how to enjoy the surf and sun!

I have to say that after going to the pool yesterday with the family and smelling all that chlorine and suntan lotion (one of my favorite smells in the whole world), I was more than eager to create the "Beach Blanket Bingo" soap I've been dreaming of for quite a while.

A departure from my normal "all natural" stance, I don't know that I'll offer this for sale on the website...(unless there's a demand, of course) but I really never intended to sell it.  (I told a friend about it at church this morning, and I offered to give her a bar to try because she loves that suntan lotion smell as much as I do.)  As you know, this was a project of blatant self indulgence on my part....unusual for me, at least with regard to soap! : )   I usually use only the "culls"...bars that are too small or ugly to sell.

I love the way this fragrance oil/soap smells, but I still believe that for me at least, essential oils are better & healthier.   It's not that they bother me when I use the soap, I actually find them very nice, but fragrance oils all seem to give me a stuffy nose and/or a headache when I'm exposed to the amount that is involved in making a batch of soap.  Yesterday I wore the respirator that I usually only wear when combining the water and lye...that seemed to help a bit.  I didn't end up with a headache.

The top light colored layer is my basic recipe, superfatted with a blend of shea/mango/cocoa butters.  The bottom layer is the same except with honey added.  The line in the middle is cocoa powder.  I've never done one before, but I like the look of it in other soaps I've seen, so I thought I would try it.  Over all I'm pleased with the look, I think.

At any rate, I'm anxious to try the soap in 4-6 weeks (if I can wait that long!)  I'll let you all know how it is at that time.

Happy Skin!   ~Becky

I like how it looks, almost sandy...beachlike for your suntan lotion scent. My first thought was that there should be a blue layer with the tan, for a real beach/water feel...hehe!~Deb

Way to go! Orgininal... beautiful and very natural looking. I see the sandy beach... Let me know later how you like the little black line in the soap when you use the soap. I am curious I love the look, but in the end I am unsure if I like the finished line in my soaps? I may have used too much cocoa? In my soaps it was a little hard? xo Jen

Yeah! Way to be self-indulgent! You definitely need to use more than just the unsellable soap. :)
